1. Delete your account from the app
Deletion is built into FlashTalk. You do not need to send us a request or wait for a reply.
- Open FlashTalk and go to the You tab.
- Tap the settings icon in the top right.
- Under Account, tap Delete account.
- Read the confirmation and tap Delete account again.
Your account and its data are removed on our servers straight away, and the app returns to the welcome screen. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
2. What is deleted
Deleting your account removes both the account itself and the personal information attached to it:
- Your sign-in. Your authentication record, including the phone number you registered with.
- Your profile. Display name, biography and prompt answers, interests, languages and levels, and every profile photo, including the image files themselves.
- Your conversations. Every conversation you took part in, with its messages, voice notes, transcripts and media. A conversation is removed for everyone in it, not only for you.
- Your learning. Every word you saved, with its translation and review history.
- Your safety and notification records. Blocks, reports, hidden messages, photo-reveal requests, push-notification tokens and your invite code.
3. If you no longer have the app
If you have uninstalled FlashTalk or cannot sign in, email support@flashtalk.co from contact information associated with your account, with the subject “Delete my account.” Tell us the phone number you registered with so we can find the account.
We may need to verify that the account is yours before we delete it, because deletion is permanent and affects the conversations you were part of.
4. What may remain after deletion
A small amount of information is kept deliberately, and it no longer identifies you through your profile:
- Safety records. If your account was reported or blocked by another member, we keep a record of that, stripped of your profile details, so that deleting and re-registering does not clear a moderation history.
- Invite records. We keep the record that an invitation was used, with account identifiers removed, so the same phone number cannot be invited repeatedly.
- Words other members learned. If someone saved a word from something you wrote, the word and its translation stay in their collection, with your name and the quoted sentence erased. What is left is a word they learned, from nobody in particular.
Information may also persist briefly in backups and technical systems, and we may retain limited records where the law requires it. Our Privacy Policy explains retention in full, and our Terms of Service cover what ending your account means.
